Several counties hit with weekend weather warning for heavy rain and possible flooding

There could be 'difficult travelling conditions' and 'poor visibility'.

The Status Yellow rain warning applies for Cork, Waterford and Wexford and will be valid the entirety of Sunday (29 September).

"Persistent rain, heavy at times," it reads.

"Potential impacts: Localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions."

As for Met Éireann's national forecast for the next few days, it reads: "Rather mixed weather over the next few days and quite cold too for this time of year."

Saturday is set to be "mostly dry with scattered cloud and good sunny spells at times".

"A few showers will develop in places. Light to moderate westerly winds will fall light later in the day and back southerly, with highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees," the forecast adds.

Then, rain - heavy in parts - will spread up from the southwest, over much of the country during Saturday night and Sunday, reaching the north coast on Sunday afternoon.

It will be accompanied by fresh to strong and gusty easterly winds.

"Some spot flooding may occur in parts too. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees," Met Éireann say.

"The rain should turn more patchy on Sunday evening and night with a lighter northerly breeze setting in. Lowest temperatures of around 7 to 10 degrees."
