The White House press secretary has a very unusual personal habit

The new White House Press Secretary and Communications Director Sean Spicer has had a hectic week.

Between criticising the media, passing out ‘alternative facts’ and carrying out President Trump’s bizarre bidding, however, there’s one little habit that’s likely helping him get through the day.

As he revealed in an interview with the Washington Post, the former naval commander chews through an eye-popping amount of chewing gum while he’s working.

This is no mild addiction; the former political strategist favours the Orbit Cinnamint brand and has admitted devouring two-and-a-half packs before midday. What’s more? He swallows it too.

His reasoning? He likes to keep his mouth fresh at all times.

“I talked to my doctor about it, he said it’s no problem.” he told the newspaper in August.

Happily, the childhood warning that swallowing chewing gum will stick your internal organs together is a myth, nor does it stay in your stomach for years.

As it turns out, chewing gum is processed in the same way as any other food eaten by a human, although it’s nutritionally barren.

One word of warning though; excess gum consumption has been known to have a laxative effect. Let’s hope the communications office is close to the loos.
