Meredith Gaudreau confirmed the harrowing news at her husband's funeral

She revealed the bittersweet news at her partner Johnny Gaudreau's funeral after the NHL star was killed in a road accident.

Johnny and his brother Matthew tragically died when they were struck by an alleged drunk driver during a bike ride in New Jersey.

They were sadly killed on the evening of their younger sister Katie's wedding. The brothers were meant to be groomsmen for the momentous day.

Speaking at her husband's funeral, Meredith said Johnny will always be her soulmate.

"John and I had the best six months as a family of four. These will forever be the best six months of my life."

"There's specifically one week I will cherish forever, it will be my favourite week of my life. We're actually a family of five," she shared.

The mum added, "It was a surprise, but [Johnny's] initial reaction was just kissing me and hugging me, he was beaming."

"I still feel like the luckiest girl in the world to be his wife. He was and still is my soulmate," Meredith added.

Johnny and his brother Matthew were killed on August 29th.

Matthew's wife Madeline is also pregnant with their first child and is due to give birth in December.

Meredith begged people to never drink and drive so no family has to face the heartache they're now enduring.
