Talk about a hair-raising experience.
A WizzAir flight made a terrifyingly low landing on the Greek island of Skiathos – narrowly avoiding plane spotters who had convened on a road nearby.
The Airbus 320 skidded onto the short runway at Skiathos Alexandros Papadiamantis Airport after barely clearing the perimeter fence – and a few people stood outside!
The island airport’s layout means pilots have to make a particularly low approach, making it a popular spot for thrill-seeking plane spotters out for a few close-up snaps.
There are warning signs and traffic light in place, so people standing there know they are doing so at their own risk.
But even seasoned visitors were taken aback by this particular landing, which was uploaded to YouTube last week by plane enthusiast GreatFlyer.
One person even moves out of the way as the aircraft approaches overhead, while another woman’s cap was blown towards the ocean while onlookers were pushed back by the force of the jet.
GreatFlyer asked followers if the touch-down was the ‘new lowest landing’ at the airport.
And it’s hard to see how there could be many landing any lower!
The approach to landing on Skiathos has seen it dubbed the “second St Maarten” of Europe in a nod to the notorious Caribbean airport.
Princess Juliana International Airport is famous due to the unique proximity of low-flying airliners arriving and departing.
Plane spotters often wait on the beach or even in the sea to watch flights land at a scarily low altitude.
