Police in Utah have arrested a woman after seven dead babies were found at her home over the weekend.
The woman, who has been identified by local media as 39-year-old Megan Huntsman, was taken to Utah County Jail and charged with six counts of murder.
According to reports, Pleasant Grove Police went to the residence after receiving a call from Ms Huntsman’s estranged husband, Darren West, about the body of a dead infant.
A statement from them said: “A search warrant was obtained for the residence and during the execution of the warrant, officers discovered six additional infant bodies. Each infant was found packaged in separate containers.”
The investigation is said to have revealed that she had given birth to the infants and then killed them over the course of a ten-year period, between 1996 and 2006.
It is believed that Mr West, who was previously imprisoned for drugs charges, is the father of the children however he is not considered a person of interest. It is not known when he was released from jail.
Ms Huntsman apparently moved out of her home several years ago leaving her three daughters, aged 20, 18 and 13) in the house.
The bodies of the babies have been sent to the medical examiner’s office for tests to determine the cause of death as well as whether Ms Huntsman and Mr West are the parents.
