A woman was arrested in Ballina, Co. Mayo yesterday after entering a local secondary school with a knife.

The woman, believed to be in her 50s, entered St Muredach’s college yesterday at approximately 9:30am where she threatened a senior member of staff, according to the Irish Mirror.

It is understood the woman was arrested and taken to Ballina Garda station. No one was harmed during the incident and the woman was later released without charge.

St. Muredach’s later posted a tweet which read:  “The school management of St Muredach’s College can confirm that an unauthorised person was removed from the school by An Garda Siochána. At no time was there any risk to the students attending the school”.
