Devastating.

A woman has died and her two children were rescued after a car they were travelling in entered the River Lee in Cork City.

The incident happened at Kennedy Quay at around 8.45pm last night and the two children are now being treated in hospital.

The children were taken from the water and are said to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are receiving treatment at Cork University Hospital.

A post-mortem examination is set to take place on the woman’s body.

The car has since been removed for a technical examination and Gardaí say they are treating the incident as a tragic accident.

They are also appealing for any witnesses, especially anyone who may have dash cam footage, to get in contact with them.
