A woman in Co Longford was the victim of a horrific assault in the midlands county yesterday evening.
The woman was held at knifepoint by two men before being bundled into her car which was parked on Ballymahon Street in Longford. It is reported that the attack happened just before 6pm yesterday evening.
It is believed that the woman was forced into her car by the two males. They then drove off through the town with the Gardaí in pursuit. Some time later, the car crashed into a ditch.
The woman was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar where her injuries are described as not life threatening.
It is believed that one man was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore while a second man escaped the scene of the incident on foot. A short time later the man was arrested and is currently being held at Longford Garda Station.
Gardaí investigating the incident are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Longford Garda Station 043 335 0570 or on the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111. They are particularly interested in talking to anybody who was near the car park on Ballymahon Street between 5.30pm and 6pm.
