A woman in the US endured labour for two days before learning that she was having twins.

Nicole Ziesemer from Michigan got more than she bargained for when a doctor saw a second head crowning and informed her that she was about to become a mum of two.

She and her husband Matthew had opted for a natural pregnancy and were shocked at the news.

Their natural pregnancy meant that they wanted a home birth with zero pain relief and that Nicole didn’t have any scans throughout her pregnancy, except one on the day she went into labour.

Nicole went into labour earlier than expected and was admitted to hospital.

She was in immense pain for 45 hours before she decided to accept an epidural.

Two hours later she gave birth to a little girl the couple named Bekeley – but was still in agony after the delivery.

Doctors were about to stitch Nicole up but saw that something else was coming out.

An emergency ultrasound confirmed that there was a twin on the way.

Nicole then gave birth to a baby boy, Cade.

She and Matthew were in utter shock, she said.

“There were really no signs that I was carrying more than one baby, in fact people said how small I was,” Nicole told Metro.

“We thought the biggest surprise was going to be the sex of the baby, little did we know!

“And when they told us that it was another baby I literally asked her if she was lying.

“But I really can’t imagine having just one baby now. It’s like they were meant to be. I love the thought that they’ll always have each other.”
