You’d want to wrap up well lads, because we’re in for a freezing few nights ahead

And mornings, too.

It’s January. That time of year.

Where it’s after Christmas, the days are slowly but surely getting longer, and you’re all but ready to throw on a light jumper and welcome spring in all its glory.

Except we live in Ireland and we can’t do that because it’s still bitterly cold and only about to get colder.

Sound.

As we are all well aware, Met Eireann recently issued a five-day (yeah, five days) snow and ice weather warning.

While this of course does not mean that the country is going to be covered in snow and ice for five days (we bloody hope it doesn’t anyway), it does mean that temperatures are going to be absolutely baltic going forward.

So put an extra later on. Be vigilant.

According to the latest forecast, tonight (Monday) is going to see lows of around -1 to +2 degrees with widespread frost and southwesterly winds blowing at a light enough rate.

Not so bad – until you get to tomorrow morning, which will essentially be freezing cold, only reaching highs of 2 degrees in some parts of the country during the day.

Honestly, so grim like.

“Tuesday will be very cold with outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow which will later clear to scattered wintry showers and some sunny spells,” says their website.

“Top temperatures will reach just 2 to 6 degrees. Southwesterly winds will veer northwest and freshen.”

“Tuesday night will be very cold with scattered wintry showers and clear spells. Lowest temperatures will fall to between zero and -3 degrees with a widespread hard frost.”

Zero and -3, like.

Great.
