One of the victims of a Co Fermanagh house fire that claimed four lives this week was a young child, it’s been confirmed.

The child’s body was recovered from the wreckage of a house in Derrylin, close to the Cavan border, today.

The remains of three other people were also found in the house, which went on fire on Tuesday morning, reports RTÉ.

The PSNI confirmed the news this afternoon.

“It is with great sadness that I can now confirm that a fourth body has been found within the crime scene and that it appears to be the body of a young child,” said PSNI detective inspector Peter McKenna.

A post mortem is due to be carried out on all of the four deceased to confirm their identities.

They’re thought to all be members of the one family and had all moved to the area recently, according to the local priest.

A 27-year old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being questioned by authorities.

The poor weather of the past few days has impacted on the police investigation.

“I believe the fire was started deliberately and we are working hard to progress the investigation into this very complex crime scene,” said detective inspector McKenna.

“There is significant structural damage caused by the ferocious fire and the scene examination is further compounded by the severe weather.”
