Sad news of a Thursday.
A zebra has been shot dead after escaping from a circus in Germany.
The animal ran away from the circus near Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on Tuesday night along with another zebra.
Police in Germany have said that multiple attempts were made to capture the animal before it was shot.
The other zebra was successfully captured.
CNN reports that the zebra caused a highway traffic accident between two cars, as well as "material damage" to multiple vehicles.
The road where the zebra was loose was closed following its escape, however police and a circus trainer failed to capture the animal.
According to police, the zebra caused damage to a car by running over its engine hood. The animal also caused damage to a patrol car, and slightly injured a police officer.
After some time, the zebra was shot dead near the town of Thelkow. The animal died instantly.
"The exact circumstances of the shooting are still being probed," said police.
