It gives your support. It keeps you in control. It protects your dignity. And no it’s not your other half; it’s your bra.
Your bra is a very important garment not just in terms of comfort but also your health. That is why you need to make sure that your bra fits you correctly.
To find out if yours fits you properly, ask yourself these five questions:
1. Is your bra leaving dark red marks on your skin?
If your bra is too tight it will leave dark red marks on your skin. It can also nip you and leave you feeling sore which isn’t good. You might be better going for a bigger size if this is the case.
2. Are your boobs sitting into the cup well?
There are two separate elements to this question. Firstly, are the cups of your bra gaping at all? If so you might need to go down a cup size. Secondly, are you spilling out of the cup? This means you need a larger cup size.
3. Does the bra sit against your skin properly?
Your bra ought to be sitting against your skin but not to the point where it is hurting or pinching you anywhere. The main area to look at is the bit that sits against your breast bone. There shouldn’t be more than a finger width between your bra and your breast bone here.
4. Is the back of your bra riding up your back?
This is a tell-tale sign that your bra is not the right size for you. It might just be a simple case of loosening the straps and lowering the back strap down. Then again it could be that your bra is too small for you.
5. Do your straps keep falling down your arms?
If you find that you are fixing your straps more times than you are having a cup of tea, then you probably need to tighten your bra or go for a smaller size. Falling straps usually mean that you are not wearing the right size of bra.
Most high street chains offer bra-fitting services to customers so don’t be afraid to use them. You don’t even have to get measured if you don’t want to, although it is probably best that you do.
You can simply slip on a bra and ask the qualified assistant if it is sitting how and where it should. They should be able to advise you from there.
Also, don't be afraid to throw out old bras because the elasticity in bras will go which will affect how well they fit you. Whatever you do, don't wear a bra that doesn't fit you properly. Not only is it uncomfortable but it isn't good for your health either.
