This barbie ponytail trend is everywhere and it’s destined to be our summer go-to

Oh-so retro.

The barbie ponytail is officially having its moment.

Inspired by none other than Barbie herself, it’s Ariana Grande’s go-to and recently it’s been rocked by the likes of Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez and Euphoria’s Alexa Demie.

While Barbie’s often problematic beauty standards have thankfully changed and become more inclusive over the years, her iconic ponytail has remained something the doll is known for.

With the live-action Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie on the way, it’s no surprise the ’00s look is back with a modern twist.

Here’s how to perfect it. Spoiler alert: it’s actually quite easy to do.

Start by sectioning off any front framing pieces of your hair you wish to keep out of your ponytail.

Then gather the rest of your hair and pull it into a high ponytail at the top of your crown, smoothing your hair back with a brush.

Next, using either a straightener or a curling wand, flick-curl the ends of your ponytail outwards, making sure each flick is in the same direction. To finish, secure with a decent amount of hairspray.

If you want to get rid of any pesky baby hairs near the hairline, spritz a little hairspray on a small comb or mascara wand and simply brush away.

Once you’ve perfected the method you can play around with it a bit by adding a colourful statement scrunchie or silk ribbon.

An easy glam look and a perfect way to relive your childhood nostalgia while you’re at it – what’s not to love?
