Burrito-Style Runners Are The Future… And We Can’t WAIT to Try Them

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Comfy runners are a staple of the busy parent’s weekend (and, let’s be honest, midweek) wardrobe, so any time there’s a design breakthrough on the horizon, we’re all ears.

With that in mind, let us present to you the latest major footwear innovation in recent years: a sneaker that is light, flexible, sizeless, free of laces and supremely stylish. And it wraps around your feet like a burrito.

Seriously, these things are SO COOL.

From the people who brought us the Five Finger running shoe, Vibram’s latest design is based on Furoshiki, the Japanese tradition of wrapping, carrying and holding objects in cloth.

Vibram’s Furoshiki is the only sole on the market that wraps around the entire foot. Because the upper is constructed with stretch fabric, it anatomically fits any foot type, which is great news for anyone with an especially narrow or wide foot.

The hook and loop closure system allows for a quick, easy fit and, because the tightness of the wrapping technology is a matter of personal preference, the sizing is unisex, which should make shopping easier.

At €99 they’re not cheap, but if you’re on your feet all day (and really, who isn’t?) you could look at them as an investment in comfort.

Here’s handy video on how they work:
