Comfort is key.
When it comes to office dress codes, things are definitely more relaxed in recent times and I, for one, welcome that change.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m the first to glam up when the opportunity arises but when you have a million and one things to fit into your day, high heels and a carefully constructed ensemble just isn’t an option.
Who has the time? Who wants to hobble around in pain on a daily basis? Who are people even trying to impress?
Jeans that fit well, a range of basic t-shirts and Nikes have become a daily uniform for many of us and while it’s a rite of passion for us lesser mortals, celebrities are still keeping up appearances.
You only have to look to the Cannes red carpet where Bella Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski and Lily-Rose Depp are providing us with a daily dose of fabulousness.
The A-list festival has only just kicked off and Emily has taken things to another level entirely with a topless shot, the internet is freaking out because Bella flashed her underwear and Lily-Rose is absolutely angelic in a Grecian-inspired gown.
Jessica Chastain’s embellished velvet gown, Alexander McQueen no less, is a lesson in timeless sophistication while Marion Cotillard is filling us with 90s nostalgia thanks to this pinstriped belted dress.
The tide has turned against the red carpet recently. A couple of weeks ago, Blake Lively made headlines when a reporter deigned to ask her about her outfit (Brandon Maxwell jumpsuit FYI), suggesting that perhaps it would be more in line to concentrate on the event and what it was about.
Now given that Lively was there to give a speech about child pornography, it’s understandable that she wasn’t really bothered about giving details about her #ootd.

That said, while this specific event was not the right place or time for fashion-focused questions, red carpets events will always get attention because we want to see how the other half live, and indeed what they’re wearing.
Their haute couture pieces are often replicated on the high-street and often, events like this shape next season’s style.
Think about it, pouring over the first looks from Cannes 2017 provides some much-needed momentary escapism from yet another dull, dreary Wednesday where a trip to the cinema is about as exciting as it gets…
