Leggings are a staple in many people's wardrobe as they're a comfy and easy option when you're on-the-go.
But people are switching out their leggings for roomy trousers and wide-leg jeans.
In particular it's Gen Z who are rejecting leggings, instead opting for Y2K-style silhouettes like slouchy cargo pants, which are being paired with tight-fitting tees and tank tops.
Journalist and Substack writer Casey Lewis has been tracking the shifts on TikTok and beyond, spotlighting the trouser trends currently owning that sacred space.
Below you can see some of the styles that people are reaching for in their wardrobe over leggings - and where to buy them.

Leggings are being swapped out for voluminous trousers with a distinctly 90s/00s dance class vibe – think Save the Last Dance or Honey. They've quickly become a staple with people pairing them with baby tees or fitted tanks for a nostalgic throwback. Or with a sporty jacket for a modern edge.
You can get this pair from Amazon and they won't break the bank, with five colours to choose from and a price mark of €28.91 / £24.99.

The looser, drapier "uncuffed" trackpant are replacing cuffed joggers. The relaxed cut is more comfortable and can be paired with a fitted tank or tee for casual daytime look. One customer described these sweatpants from Amazon as the "cosiest pants I’ve ever had". At the time of writing they're discounted by 10% to just €10.41 / £9 and you can get them here.

Of course, blue denim is iconic, but black jeans are having a moment. And shoppers are choosing a faded, 'lived-in' style over a polished, slick black pair of jeans. They can elevate a simple outfit, whether its a white tee or tank, with a leather jacket to a "casual but intentional" look.
This is a popular pair on Amazon, with customers noting that they're "comfortable, stretchy, and great-looking" and as good as more expensive alternatives. They're priced at €38.17 / £32.99.

Hems are dropping lower and longer, blurring the line between shorts and trousers. The knee-length (and below) silhouettes give a chill, androgynous twist to your shorts of choice.
These baggy cargo shorts from Amazon are available in neutrals like coffee, black, and khaki as well as blue and orange, with sizes ranging between eight and 26.
They're currently discounted by 15% to €33.43 / £28.99 for a limited on Amazon here.
