Newbridge Silverware Museum of Style Icons (MOSI) has announced an extraordinary exhibit to celebrate one of the world’s most famous screen actresses of all time, Elizabeth Taylor.
Dame Elizabeth “Liz” Taylor was a British-American actress who went on to become one of the great film actresses of Hollywood’s Golden Age. As one of the world’s most famous film stars, Taylor was recognized for her acting ability and for her glamorous lifestyle, beauty and distinctive violet eyes. Her love affairs and life were chronicled around the globe and her celebrity was one of true Hollywood style.
The limited-engagement “The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor” will be featured at the Newbridge Silverware Museum of Style Icons (MOSI) from Tuesday, July 16thuntil Sunday, August 25th and is in partnership with Julien’s Auctions (www.juliensauctions.com). The collection is part of a vast inventory of Hollywood memorabilia that will be featured later in the year at the Hollywood Icons auction to be held at Julien’s Auctions Beverly Hills gallery on Saturday, October 12th, 2013. This is the first time the exhibit will be seen anywhere in the world.
The exhibit showcases the life of an extraordinary and generous woman who confidently embraced the styles of each era. It features couture pieces, high fashion outfits, garments acquired during her global travels, and custom made vintage fashions and pieces from her favorite Beverly Hills boutiques dating from the 1950s to the 1980s. Fans will experience the history of her career starting with the Hollywood dresses of the 1950s to the mini and maxi dresses, and caftans of the 1960s and 1970s.
As her life took on a more conservative role when she married the U.S. politician Senator John Warner, Taylor often wore more conservative styles which will also be part of the exclusive exhibit. Several fashions in the collection also include those worn by Taylor during her many Presidential and World Leader meetings and many of her most popular celebrity related events and television roles.

The collection will include numerous other pieces representative of the Academy Award winning actress including fashions, costume sketches, jewelry and personal effects.
National Velvet (1944) was Taylor’s first success but throughout her Hollywood career she went on to star in such film classics as Father of the Bride (1950), A Place in the Sun (1951), Giant (1956), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958), and Suddenly, Last Summer (1959). Taylor won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Butterfield 8 (1960), played the title role in Cleopatra (1963) and married her co-star Richard Burton. They appeared together in 11 films including Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf? (1966) for which Taylor won a second Academy Award. From the mid – 1970s, she made several television and theatre appearances. Her much-publicized life included eight marriages which were constantly covered in media around the world. Taylor championed HIV and AIDS programs, co-founded the American Foundation for AIDS Research in 1985 and the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation in 1993. She received the Presidential Citizens Medal, the Legion of Honour, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and a Life Achievement Award from the American Film Institute who also named her one of the “Greatest American Screen Legands.” Taylor died in March of 2011.
