Helena Christensen’s new H&M collection are the clothes you need in your life for an Irish spring

Leslie Ann Horgan

A spring vibe for freezing temperatures.

The days are getting longer, but they’re getting colder too. So, while the shops fill up with slip skirts and floaty dresses, we’re still buried under at least two sweaters and a scarf. Blanket optional.

It’s so annoying when you want to chuck out your old jumpers and shake up your wardrobe for spring but the climate is very much stuck in winter. That’s why the new Helena Christensen X H&M collection has caught the eye.

The capsule collection comprises T-shirts, sweaters and hoodies that feature images taken by the supermodel turned photographer.

The images are close-ups of gorgeous arrangements of flowers in soft shades of pink, white and purple.

But instead of appearing on some light dress that we can’t even think about wearing for months, they’re printed on cropped cotton sweaters, over-sized hoodies and tees that can be tucked under chunky cardigans – essentially what we’re living in right now anyway.

It’s spring florals done for the Irish weather – all with a ’90s vibe – and it’s made us fall even more in love with the already fabulous Ms Christensen.

Helena was, of course, one of the original supermodels who modelled for everyone from Versace and Prada to Chanel in the 1990s and was one of the A-list celebrities of the day. The Danish woman is also a celebrated photographer who has shot for the likes of Vogue and Elle, as well as exhibiting her portraits.

“It’s been a very cool experience collaborating with H&M,” she said, “as I not only have been able to see my photographs come to life on items of clothing but also got to look at them through my lens as I shot the campaign images. I wanted to capture the generation of tomorrow, encouraging them to be themselves and letting their personalities shine.”

The Helena Cristensen X H&M collection will be in selected stores nationwide from January 31. The pieces are priced at €14.99 for T-Shirts, €19.99 for sweaters and €24.99 for hoodies.
