Her Christmas gift guide: Five jewellery brands that will delight all sparkle lovers

Cathy Donohue

Fellow magpies, there’s no judgement here.

Jewellery is always a gorgeous present to receive and if there’s someone in your life who loves sparkle, the good news is there’s a huge amount to choose from at the moment.

Of course, self-gifting is real and if you’re been saving to buy yourself something special, Christmas is the perfect time to indulge because yes, you are worth it.

This year, gold jewellery is having a major moment from delicate layered chains to statement medallions and pieces like these stand the test of time.

You can choose from solid gold, gold-plated, vermeil and sterling silver among others which means there’s something to suit every budget, little or large.

As a jewellery lover, it was a true pleasure to round up some of the collections available at the moment. From homegrown Irish brands to those making waves on the social media scene, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Maria Tash

Spendy but stunning. If you want to treat someone special or gift yourself a pre-Christmas piercing, then we advise a little visit to the Maria Tash counter located in Brown Thomas Grafton Street. It’s a truly gorgeous space and the sparkle selection is very impressive indeed. Stand-out pieces include the diamond lotus and flower threaded studs, the perfect way to get your ear party started.

We’re currently crushing on the Star Diamond Stud which is priced around the €380 mark, it’s not cheap but this is a piece you’d have for a lifetime. It’s worth noting that once you start adding to your ear piercings and racking up the sparkle, there are so many options for mixing and matching. Delightful news for any magpie…

Missoma

Although the jewellery brand has increased in popularity in recent months thanks in no small part to Meghan Markle (more on that here), I’m a longtime fan. Their 18-carat gold vermeil pieces are just stunning altogether with the new collaboration with Lucy Williams a major highlight.

I adore the Gold Square Snake Chain Necklace because it’s a timeless classic that can be mixed and matched with statement pieces. I bought it during a recent Black Friday offer and I’ve been wearing it on repeat since. Another Missoma piece trending right now is the Gold Axiom Chain Necklace which is priced at £165 and which when you convert it, this works out to about €180.

G by Glenda Gilson

Glenda recently launched her Astrology collection which includes coins embossed with zodiac signs. Each piece is sterling silver with a layer of 18ct yellow gold plating. Priced at €60, it’s a delightful gift for the pal who’s obsessed with all things astrology, you know the one who checks her horoscope religiously and shares all the Instagram memes.

Although it’s gorgeous worn alone, this is also a piece that can be easily mixed and matched with chains of other lengths and widths, a must for all the accessory-loving ladies.

Betty and Biddy

If you’re on a budget and want to indulge your magpie tendencies, Betty & Biddy deserves a look. Ticking all the latest trends and at affordable prices too, you’ll have to restrain yourself from filling your online basket. From statement earrings to chunky gold chains, it’s a treasure trove of pretty pieces where you’ll find plenty of gifting inspiration if you happen to be partaking in Secret Santa this year.

Huggie styles are having a moment right now and the Dotted Pearl Hoops (€15) feature the perfect amount of embellishment. However, there’s such a wide range of pieces that you’re very likely to start lusting after pieces once you start shopping – one for you and one for your friend. Oops…

Oscar Graves

Pearse Curran knows everything there is to know about jewellery and has worked behind the scenes with household names including Paul Costelloe and Waterford Crystal. However, he’s now launched his own brand and it’s my new favourite jewellery find. As someone who adores fine jewellery, each piece is more stunning than the last but if you prefer pieces that make a bold statement, look no further than the Oscar7 core collection. Grey Riot, Dead Sea, 1970, Rumy, Periphery, Blacksmith, Cuban – seven rings that reflect the diversity, tenacity and beauty of our everyday heroes.

Then there’s the stunning wishbone necklace and the gorgeous ostrich feather earrings and with prices to suit most budgets, Oscar Graves gift bags are likely to appear under many a Christmas tree next week.
