Five reasons why Pamela Uba had to be the winner of Best Dressed at the Galway Races

Cathy Donohue

As fashion fans will know, Pamela Uba was crowned Her Best Dressed at the Galway Races yesterday.

The medical scientist chose a statement look and the eye-catching ensemble piqued interest from the off with the same remark heard again and again, “I picked her out from the start”.

Speaking to Her earlier today, the 24-year-old chatted about how she had never been to the popular summer festival before and the big win came as a complete shock.

There are a few reasons why Pamela’s outfit took the number one spot and we’ve dissected exactly why.

Irish-made

The Irish fashion industry is thriving and Thursday of Galway race week is traditionally a day when we see racegoers travel from far and wide to showcase pieces from our talented milliners and designers. Pamela’s outfit was sourced from homegrown brands and shops with her jumpsuit from Phoenix V, hat from Laura Hanlon Millinery, accessories from Carraig Donn and shoes from No.8 Galway. From established names to up-and-coming labels, consider buying Irish next time you’re looking for a special occasion piece.

All-in-one chic

Summer 2019 is the season of the jumpsuit and if you haven’t dipped into this particular look, get shopping. In a sea of dresses, a jumpsuit stands out and this was most definitely the case at yesterday’s Her Best Dressed event. An all-in-one piece is a dream to style, add accessories and statement shoes for a stylish but effortless look. Whether you opt for a comfortable but chic boiler suit or a slick, tailored piece, this is a purchase that will stand the test of time. Warning, bathroom breaks might take a little longer than usual!

Comfort is key

A rather unique feature of Pamela’s jumpsuit is the ability to remove the train, giving her two looks for the price of one. Bringing the drama for the daytime fashion parade, the flowing fabric can be removed giving Pamela the option to style the jumpsuit in a completely different manner. Cork-based Phoenix V specialises in occasion wear and recognises the fact that Irish consumers appreciate value for money, we are already imagining the different ways you could wear this particular piece.

Complementary colours

Pink and grey is a timeless colour combination, evident from yesterday’s best-dressed look. The grey jumpsuit is perfectly offset by the blush pink tones in Pamela’s headpiece and heels. An elegant ensemble, it ticked all the boxes for our Her Best Dressed judges and brought something a little different to traditional racing fashion. On first glance, you can immediately tell that this girl knows exactly how to put an outfit together and has a savvy sense of style.

Designer dupes

Pamela’s shoes are similar to the iconic Valentino Garavani Rockstud pumps and clearly, she knows a bargain when she sees one. Pairing designer fashion with high-street items, sourcing a bespoke headpiece from an Irish milliner but buying your shoes in the sale, that’s where the fun comes into fashion and how you can have an absolute ball seeing the perfect outfit come together. A very useful style tip is to start with one statement piece and style your outfit around that, it works like a charm!
