IKEA shares how you can make your own Game of Thrones cape

Winter is coming, after all.

We were definitely surprised to learn that Jon Snow and the Night's Watch shop at IKEA - although, who doesn't appreciate a good deal on furnishings? It was recently revealed that the Game of Thrones costume designers turned to the retailer to try and create Kit Harrington's look for the Night's Watch - as well as a few other key characters. And now IKEA has shared instructions on how to make your very own cloak. The spoof instructions were listed as being for the 'Vinter' Skuldervarmer' - which very loosely translates to Winter Shoulder Warmer. The drawing, done in the simple line-drawn style of IKEA's furniture assembly manuals, was recently posted on the retailer's  Norwegian Facebook page.  It shows the three step process of turning a rug, like IKEA's Ludde or Skold, into a thick fur cloak suited for the Westerosi winter. The first step is to cut the rug where the dotted line indicates to make a hole for the head and neck - while step two directs the person to put the rug on their shoulders. Step three is probably easiest of them all. It shows the wearer morphed into the finest Westerosi, with flowing hair and a cosy fur cloak to protect them from the winter. Costume designer Michele Clapton, who worked on the first five seasons of the show, told how that some of the capes are made from IKEA rugs. Clapton was giving a talk at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, entitled Designing the Middle Ages: The Costumes of GoT last year - but her comments have recently emerged again. In the talk, she said:

"These capes are actually IKEA rugs. It's a bit of a truth. We take anything we can. "We cut, shave them, add strong leather straps and then breakdown, which is like a religion on Game of Thrones. I want the audience to almost smell the costumes."
