IKEA KÅSEBERGA

Get outdoors.

That is what IKEA wants us to do this summer with their brand new Kåseberga collection, designed especially with surfers and their active way of living in mind.

Named after a small city in Sweden with one of the most southern surf breaks in the country, the Kåseberga collection will hit stores later this month.

Back in 2019, IKEA and the World Surf League announced a collaboration to better understand the everyday life of people who are more mobile than most, and live in close rhythm with the ocean. The result is the Kåseberga collection – practical and beautifully designed products for the home and life on the go.

“These needs are relevant for many more people than surfers and inspired us to create products that enrich everybody’s lives with similar demands. With this collection, we hope to spread the joy of the surfing lifestyle in the home and everyday life of many people”, says Wiebke Braasch, Designer at IKEA of Sweden.

“As surfers, we are close to the ocean and often see first-hand how pollution and waste are affecting our waterways and oceans. We are stoked now to see the Kåseberga collection coming to life, and that our common strive to make society more sustainable really comes through in many of the new products. It’s exciting that we together are coming up with empowering solutions to be part of the proactive change” says Kassia Meador, member of the WSL and IKEA design team.

“It has been an honour and a pleasure to help create Kåseberga,” Meador says.

“A collection of ocean-inspired home goods and on-the-go surf essentials in the most functional high vibe low impact way. For the ever-growing global community of earth-conscious surfers and beach lovers.”

The Kåseberga collection, which will be available in IKEA stores from April 29th, includes more than 25 products intended for the home or wherever life takes them. Among those are a hand plane for body surfing, a beach chair, a portable grill, a coffee table and a bag uniquely designed to function well for beach clean-ups.

According to IKEA, the design process with this collection has revolved around including functionality, more recycled materials and promoting a more circular lifestyle. And as a result, a big part of the products in the Kåseberga collection are made of recycled polyester, while others are made of renewables, such as bamboo and cork.

The Kåseberga collection consists of 25 pieces, priced from €3 to €80, and includes a beach chair, portable grill, and a coffee table, designed both for the home and life on the go, perfect for the summer.
