The vice president at US fashion brand J Crew has reportedly been fired after mocking staff redundancies in a string of Instagram posts.

Alejandro Rhett, the vice president of the company’s menswear department, was responsible for making 175 staff redundant on Wednesday.

The vice president personally broke the news to the employees, who made up a tenth of the company’s workforce.
The executive caused outrage when just hours later he posted a series of images of himself partying and joking about the job losses to his Instagram account.

According to The Independent US, Rhett was reportedly pictured jumping for joy, posing for a fashion shoot and comparing the job losses to the Hunger Games where contestants fight to the death for one overall winner.

Other images show Rhett pictured making offensive hand gestures, using the Hunger Games catchphrase “may the odds be ever in your favour” to caption the shot.

The images, which have since been deleted, were seen as disrespectful to the employees who lost their jobs earlier that morning.

J Crew has since released a statement distancing themselves from Rhett’s actions, commenting:

“We do not condone this behaviour in any way.

“Individuals’ actions do not represent the culture of our company – this is not who we are. The tough decisions we made last week were not something we took lightly. We do our best to make decisions with care and compassion for all of our associates.”
