Nasty Gal was one of the first online retailers to take our fancy.

It was founded by Sophia Amoruso in 2006 as a vintage shop on eBay and by 2012 was named the “fastest growing retailer.” It quickly grew to be an online store.

According to recent reports, had customers in over 60 countries.

While it began as a retailer but soon expanded to include its own line of clothes, shoes and accessories. According to the retailers website they are “all designed by us in downtown Los Angeles.”

But news this morning has confirmed that Nasty Gal is preparing to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, allowing it to reorganize its business.

In addition, founder Sophia Amoruso is resigning as executive chairwoman. Sources added that director Danny Rimer is also expected to step down from the board.

The move is a surprise to customers and staff who have hailed Amoruso as a guru. Over the years the store amasses over $100 million in sales, fueled in part by a passionate customer based and millennial women who adored Amoruso and her New York Times bestseller “#Girlboss.”

Reports now suggest that the retailer has been experiencing difficulties for the past two years, conducting multiple layoffs and has been the target of lawsuits from former employees.

According to Refinery 29, #Girlboss is expected to be made into a Netflix series and Amoruso’s second book, Nasty Galaxy, was released in October.
