Online clothing store under fire for ‘sexist’ meet the parents campaign

Do you find it offensive?

There is rarely a day where a company is not in trouble over an ad campaign. Some people will say it’s because people are too easily offended and others will say it’s because brands still fail to represent equality and diversity in modern shopping.

Online clothing store JOY is the latest shop to come under fire for a campaign.

The campaign was sent out in the websites newsletter email and had a ‘meet the parents’ theme.

The brand, which sells clothes for both men and women, focused on clothes ‘appropriate’ for women who are meeting their boyfriend’s parents.

This included high-neck, over the knee garments.

The email said:

”Show your boyfriend’s mum you’re the girl to take care of her little prince in beautiful dresses that scream marriage material.

Knee length skirts exude class while respectable necklines mean father-in-law won’t have a heart attack when you lean across the table for a second helping of roast potatoes”

The campaign unsurprisingly did not go down well with customers, who have been ranting about it on the companies facebook page.
