Rihanna’s spent a decade at the forefront of the fashion pack, so when we heard that her latest sell-out FENTYxPUMA creation had landed at at Life Style Sports we were more than intrigued.
They bear her name (the Barbadian babe’s full title is Robyn Rihanna Fenty) so they should completely represent her very essence except in shoe form, right?
In short, the Rihanna sneaker should be fun, iconic, stylish and enduring.
Conversely, what we’ve been presented with appears to be some kind of joke, neatly wrapped in a big, pink, floppy satin ribbon.
An adult version of some kind of novelty children’s shoe, the €160 Bow Sneaker, now available in Ireland for men and women in Pepto-Bismol pink and murky olive green, raises more questions than it answers; questions such as:
- Who will wear these sneakers?
- Why would they willingly do that?
- Is Rihanna okay?
- Is it us who’s out of fashion and everyone else is totally cool with this?
“It is as if Marie Antoinette went to the gym!” Rihanna quite rightly asserts, describing her collection. She adds, “I can’t wait for everyone to wear it their own way, mix and match and represent their FENTY X PUMA favorites in their everyday style.”
Bad girl RiRi. Let them wear Puma States, we say.
