Say hello to the stylish €39 New Look boots that will replace your wellies for EP

Anna O'Rourke

Bored of glitter?

Done with flower crowns?

Fed up of gaudy novelty rain jackets?

We don’t blame you. Festival fashion, once edgy and experimental, has eaten itself.

Wearing things you wouldn’t usually wear is part of the fun of festivals but we’ve hit saturation point. The standard look popularised by celebrities at Coachella has become homogenous and predictable. It’s time for a reset.

Leaning into the utilitarian trend is a pretty good jumping off point; after all, you will be outdoors for most of the time so practicality is key.

With just over two weeks until Electric Picnic, we plan leave the colourful wellies at home and pack some stylish combat boots instead. We’ll be just as protected from the elements and we can actually get wear out of them once festival season is behind us.

There’s no need to splash out on pricey Doc Martens either. All the regular high street spots have their own take on the trend.

Here are a few of our picks, with prices to suit pretty much any budget.

Reptile-print zip boot – New Look, €39.99

Leather boot, Zara – €69.95

Lace-up ankle boot, River Island – €100

Oxblood patent buckle boot, New Look – €54.99

Crocodile-print boot, Topshop – €57
