There’s a reason why all of the Disney Princesses wear blue

Hmm.

Really…?

If you’re a fan of all things Disney, you’ll have probably noticed that all of the Disney Princesses tend to have one important thing in common.

And no, it’s not that any of them prior to the year 1997 were damsels in distress that required a big strong man to save them.

It’s actually that they all tended to wear blue.

Don’t believe us?

Please consider this proof.

See? Blue.

Anyway, apparently, there’s a reason why they all dressed or were drawn in blue and it’s not just because blue is a nice colour and looks good on almost anybody.

It’s because blue is a colour of dependability.

Ah. Wee see.

According to the executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, blue is a colour that everybody likes.

She told Allure that the Disney Princesses are dressed this way to make people feel at ease when they’re around them.

“It’s dependable. It’s reliable. It might cloud up, but we know it’s there.”

“It’s something to look forward to, to see that blue sky.”

Okay, so.

The colour blue, however, can also change meanings depending on what kind of princess is wearing it.

For example, if a young princess, like Belle from Beauty and the Beast, wears blue it means that she is confident and adventurous despite her age.

The film’s costume designer, Jacqueline Durran, said that the colour alluded to Belle’s strength.

“There is a sort of refinement and crispness to light blue, but there’s also blue in workwear.

“It is a practical colour, and a colour that you can work in. In that sense, it is full of active strength.”

So there you go – Disney Princesses wear blue because other people like looking at blue things and also because blue is a colour you can work in.

How inspiring.
