These Are The Five Tips Everyone Needs To Know To Buy The Right Bra

Chances are, you could do with a fitting.

Buying a bra can be a lot of hard work.

Yes, you know there are fitting services, but taking the time and effort out of your day to stop into a shop to make small talk in your undergarments isn’t really a ‘top of your agenda’ kind of chore.

The only thing worse than the five minutes of awkward chatter is the sight of you squashing your chest into an unsupported bra.

Now UK lingerie specialists Triumph have revealed the five tips everyone should follow when buying a bra.

(We promise they’re not impossible to follow)

1.Seek out a fitting you’re comfortable with…

First, let’s bust the myth. You do not need to strip down in a room with a stranger for a bra fitting. Most places prefer you to keep your bra on, making it easier for them to see how you currently fill out your underwear options.

Wearing a bra can actually make taking the underband measurement that much easier.

Ask friends and family where they go to get sized up. Knowing you’re in safe hands will help put you at ease.

2. Know the signs that a bra fits you properly…

Note to self: The clasp closing on the back is not enough of an indicator that your bra fits you properly.

For a good fit on your bra, the wire should sit comfortable behind the breast tissue at the sides and sit flat on the sternum at the front. The band should sit snugly to the body, not allowing it to rise up and down on your back.

3. Try before you buy…

It sounds obvious, but make sure to try on a bra before you buy every single time. Every bra fits differently, each cup shape can change your requirements and your breasts can change size every few months thanks to weight fluctuation, hormones and daily changes.

Don’t just assume it’s a safe purchase “because I’m always that size”.

4. How often should I be replacing my bra?

A well cared for bra that fits correctly should last two to three years. Anything longer could mean worn straps or loose underwire.

5. How should I wash my bra?

Although most lingerie stores will advise hand washing bras, it’s not likely something you can squeeze into your daily routine along with eating, work, socialising and breathing. A delicate wash setting at 30 degrees is the best option for busy ladies. If you’re concerned that your bras don’t stand the test of time, ask in-store for the best way to care for your bra.

Washing Machines The average wash contains 100 million E.coli bacteria and experts say low temperature washes might not kill them. Wash at 40’C or above and use a detergent with bleach.

Just make sure to hang to dry – tumble driers are tough on clothes, and even tougher on underwires.
