This Homemade Gown Won “Best Dressed” at The Melbourne Cup

Mad crafting skillz

Who needs Dolce, Chanel or Perry when you’ve got mad crafting skills?

Emily Hunter won the Myer Fashions on The Field Competition in a guna inspired by her Pinterest boards. She showed the navy number to her mammy who spun it together for her.

“I said, ‘I really love the full skirt,’ and mum replied, ‘oh, it’s easy, we can whip that up,” Emily said.

“It took her a couple of days, I thought it’d be something fun to do and a good project for mum and I to work on the dress together.

“I’m still in shock. I wasn’t expecting to win.”

The high necked navy piece is pinched at the waist before bellowing into a full structured skirt.  The dress was accessorised with a pretty killer brightly coloured leather and lace Lisa Schaefer headpiece.

Emily’s Ma is a primary school teacher who learnt to sew from her own mother. We reckon a change in career could be in order.
