The iconic red sole dreamed up by Christian Louboutin is well-recognised across the globe but now we finally know where it came from.
French designer Louboutin previously gave an interview to The New Yorker where he explained his inspiration for those all-important red soles.
It was an Andy Warhol painting entitled Flowers that prompted the red soles because when looking at the painting, Louboutin immediately wanted to make a pair of shoes inspired by it.
However, the first prototype, a pink stacked heel with a black sole and a blossom that looked almost cartoon like, wasn’t to his satisfaction.
Looking around for something to help him achieve the perfect design, he saw his assistant painting her nails with red nail varnish and something clicked.
He got the nail varnish from her, painted it onto the sole and that was it, the red sole for Christian Louboutin shoes was born.
In conversation with the publication, he said:
“Then it popped, and I thought, This is the drawing!”
So there you have it, that’s how those gorgeous red soles came to be and it’s clear that once the shoe designer came up with the perfect vision, he couldn’t imagine changing it.
