A woman just asked the internet whether this ASOS dress is OK for a funeral

What do you think?

Picking the right thing to wear for a funeral isn’t always easy.

You want to look respectful but as many families nowadays choose to celebrate their loved one’s life rather than fixate on their death, it can be hard to strike the right balance.

Now one woman has turned to the internet for advice for an upcoming funeral.

Taking to Mumsnet, the anonymous mum shared an image of a dress she’d gotten from ASOS that she was planning to wear but said her husband told her it wasn’t suitable.

The dress is plain black and ties in a ruffled wrap style around the waist.

“I already have this dress and have a funeral next week,” she wrote.

“I intend to wear it with black tights and black ankle boots with a small heel. Also I am 5 foot tall so it is practically knee length on me.

“I thought it was perfect but DH (dear husband) seems to think it’s ‘too much’.”

The response from fellow forum users was mixed, with some saying the dress would be inappropriate.

“I don’t really think it’s suitable funeral attire either. It’s the sort of style I’d wear on a night out,” wrote one.

“Any other situation it would be lovely but I feel that there is a bit more flesh on show than there should be for a funeral, lovely though it is,” commented another.

Others thought it was perfectly fine.

“I think most people who are bereaved don’t even notice what people are wearing. It’s fine it you put some black tights with it,” said one user.

“I do think it’s suitable but if you have a jacket to go over it, even better. I went to a funeral recently where there was barely any black. No eyebrows raised that I could see,” commented another.

We have to say we reckon it’s grand, especially when paired with tights and a coat.
