So yeah, we’ve been pronouncing ASOS all wrong

Oops.

Cathy Donohue

Who knew there were SO many different ways to pronounce ASOS?

If I had a euro for every time I’ve searched the high to low section on ASOS, I’d be a very rich woman.

You’d think with all that time spent searching for a bargain, I’d be familiar with how to say it but apparently not.

Hump day treats ? AND there’s up to 50% off in the sale right now (? : @halcyon_velvet)

Just like the way Zara has been mispronounced for quite some time, ASOS has been getting the same treatment.

The gals at Cosmopolitan alerted us to the fact that ASOS is actually meant to be pronounced “ace-oss” and not,”ay-sos”, as many shoppers previously thought.

In case you’re currently looking at your screen in disbelief, it is, in fact, true, and the evidence is right over here on the ASOS website.

ASOS, which first came to fruition in 1999, stands for As Seen On Screen but people soon got sick of the long-winded name and used the abbreviation ASOS.

It turns out the confusion about how to spell ASOS goes back a couple of years with blogger Susie Bubble working with Racked to produce the below video: Racked Presents Fashion Phonetics ASOS.

Of course, training yourself to change how you say it isn’t all that easy but in fairness, no one will be that bothered how you actually say it.

I’m just intrigued that there are so many different options, ass-os is another one mentioned by of the Her gals, and with four different choices, it’s no wonder one would get confused.

Anyway, now you know and there’s nothing left to do but go and shop (or window shop if you’re right smack bang in the middle of a monthly pay cheque). It’s one way to get over the pain that is hump day.
