The creator of The Sims is releasing a mobile game and it sounds mad

First things first.

If you’ve never played The Sims, please remedy this immediately and go play The Sims.

Before its creation there hadn’t been a game like it and there hasn’t been one since – after all, in what other virtual worlds can you kill people by deleting doorways while giving birth to alien babies and cheating on your husband with the maid?

None, that’s what.

The guy that we all have to thank for this joy is Will Wright.

Wright came into our lives, created The Sims, and then left just as quickly as he had arrived, vowing to never make another video game as long as he lived.

Well, that part isn’t strictly true, but it definitely seemed that way considered Wright hadn’t launched another video game in a decade.

This all changed recently though when Wright dropped the trailer for his upcoming mobile game, Proxi.

According to him, Proxi will be “… pulling out the memories from your past, those unique things that happen in your life that make you who you are.”

Sounds intense.

Wright doesn’t give much away in the trailer (or anything, really), but if you have a little look on the Proxi website, you can see that users will be able to create their own AI, or their own Proxi, to roam around the player’s memories.

Essentially, it seems that what Wright wants to do is build a copy of the player inside of the game.

He said:

“To have any chance of building a copy of us, a real copy of us, an AI needs to know our stories and store them in the way the brain does – as thousands and thousands of interconnected concepts.”

It looks like we’re going to have to wait a while though if we do actually want to delve into Wright’s Proxi world.

At the end of the promo video, he announces that he’s still looking for an artist for the game so we can probably go ahead and assume that absolutely nothing has been done yet.

Still though, anything to fill that Sims-based hole in our hearts.
