Instagram is permanently getting rid of one of its most invasive features

Carl Kinsella

Have you ever checked to see what your partner has been liking?

Instagram are making it easier for users to hide their activity by getting rid of the “Following” tab in the app’s notifications section.

Formerly, the “Following” tab would tell you who your friends were following and what they were Liking. The idea that romantic partners were able to see exactly whose photos their significant other was interested in even became a bit of a joke online.

But the photo-sharing app, which is owned by Facebook, this week announced that it was killing the tab for good. From now on, Insta want it known that the Explore tab is the go-to place to find new people, places and hashtags to follow.

Now that the “Following” tab is gone, there’ll be no automatic way to see the activity of the people you follow.

The “Following” tab had disappeared for many users within the last few months, although plenty of users had assumed its disappearance was just a bug.

Users will still be able to see who the accounts they follow are following by clicking the “Following” list on their profile, but they’ll no longer be able to see updates in a list of notifications.

As of the end of this article, the word following has lost all meaning to us.
