Meet MiRo… a robotic dog who could be the perfect pet

Niamh Maher

It’s hoped the engaging dog-bot will be a tool for senior citizens.

We all know that dogs are the best, unfortunately, our furry friends are also tough to care for and need a huge amount of commitment and care.

Enter MiRo the robotic dog that is being likened to our favourite therapy animal Paro… you all know Paro right?

MiRo is a robot companion that’s not technically a dog it’s actually a hybrid of many different types of animals. All combined it makes for a very cute piece of equipment which has facial recognition, precision sonar, and light sensitive vision.

MiRo is known for showing an extensive range of emotions and builds on its own memory and intelligence as time goes by;

One of the great things about MiRo is that he will be able to show emotion, he’ll learn patterns and behaviours and respond emotionally by displaying different colours in the shell part of its body.

Companion robots are by nature designed to alleviate isolation they are used as a tool to supplement human care and not displace it entirely.

We’d be pretty happy to have MiRo as a companion and we wouldn’t have to pick up after it!
