Snapchat’s latest invention is both exciting and futuristic

Very interesting.

We’re intrigued.

Snapchat has taken over our social lives in both a good and bad way.

In one sense, it’s great to always have good memories documented in pictures and videos but in another way it can truly take over and be a real distraction.

So this new product that snapchat are planning to launch has us a little nervous as well as very excited.

This week CEO of Snapchat Evan Spiegel launched Spectacles, they are essentially sunglasses with a built in camera.

They also seem very easy to use. According to Wall Street Journal you simply put the glasses on, tap a small button near the hinge and it records up to ten seconds of what is in front of you, each tap records another clip.

While it may seem a little pointless, when you can just hold up your phone and record, this new product seems to allow more interaction with what’s in front of you while you are filming.

“Spectacles’ camera uses a 115-degree-angle lens, wider than a typical smartphone’s and much closer to the eyes’ natural field of view. The video it records is circular, more like human vision.

As you record, your hands are free to pet dogs, hug babies or flail around at a concert. You can reach your arms out to people you’re filming, instead of holding your phone up.”

The CEO said he and his Fiancé model Miranda Kerr tested out a prototype in 2015 and described the experience as “unbelievable”.

The sunglasses will be available in limited supply this Autumn and will cost about €115.
