WhatsApp working on new feature that sends Stories directly to Facebook

Jade Hayden

Y tho?

WhatsApp is apparently working on a new feature that will allow users to share a Story status… which can then be automatically added to Facebook Stories.

You know, the feature that nobody uses?

Sound.

According to Wabetainfo.com, the company is currently creating the option that will allow WhatsApp users to share updates directly to their Facebook Stories in a bid to increase the number of Stories appearing on the platform each day.

Apparently, WhatsApp Stories are already a thing even though we have not even used them once in our entire lives.

But no matter, because the app seem to be gunning to change how they operate anyway by making them available for crossposting on Facebook.

Fab.

The blog said that the feature is not available yet, but that when it is, it’ll work this this:

“Using this option, WhatsApp will allow to post your status updates on Facebook, that contain images, videos, GIFs and text.”

The update we have all been waiting for, guys.

Fortunately,WhatsApp Stories will not be automatically shared to Facebook (because that would be awful).

Rather, users will simply have the option to crosspost if that is, for some reason, something they would want to do.

Sure look, we’ll see.

This comes after a significant breach led to up to millions of WhatsApp users’ phones being hacked.

“We believe a select number of users were targeted through this vulnerability by an advanced cyber actor,” said the company.

“This attack has all the hallmarks of a private company known to work with governments to deliver spyware that reportedly takes over the functions of mobile phone operating systems.

“We have briefed a number of human rights organisations to share the information we can, and to work with them to notify civil society.”
