Fancy a last minute trip away with the gals?

Summer is finally here, and so are summer holidays.

If you haven’t already booked up your summer with trips far and wide, and are looking for another few ways to spend your annual leave, we’ve put together a list of cities that would be perfect for a last minute break.

Sometimes the busy-ness and stresses of life can get in the way of enjoying yourself. But they shouldn’t – the world is there to be explored, and explore it we should – especially this summer.

Whether you’re going with the gals, a significant other, or even on your own, there are plenty of spots perfect for a quick getaway.

And to help you enjoy a safe and hassle-free holiday, Irish Life Health are giving you FREE travel insurance when you purchase an Irish Life Health Kick-Off health insurance plan. That means you get all the handy benefits that come with an Irish Life Health plan – like unlimited Digital Doctor visits, counselling, virtual dieticians and access to 18 Minor Injury Clinics around the country – as well as FREE travel insurance for all your holiday plans this summer.

In the meantime, here are five trips we’re dying to take this summer, and will probably end up booking before the week is out.

1. Belfast

First up is a spot that requires minimum travelling – Belfast. A quick two hour train journey and you’ve arrived, ready to soak in the sights, check out the pubs, and spend quality time in this beautiful city.

Belfast may not technically be an abroad holiday, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not an amazing trip – and more importantly, one that can easily be organised last minute.

Notable mentions include the Titanic Museum, the Botanical Gardens, and the Chubby Cherub restaurant (it may just be the best Italian in Northern Ireland, honestly).

2. Prague

Czech Republic’s Prague has long been lauded as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe… and with good reason.

The middle European spot boasts stunning architecture, popular river banks, gorgeous baroque buildings, and so much more. It may just be the perfect last minute trip for anyone hoping to get away and experience something new this summer.

Walk over the Charles bridge at night, spend an afternoon in the Old Town Square, and explore the historic core of the city – all the while enjoying some of the most reasonably priced (and delicious) food in Europe. You won’t regret it.

3. Rome

In the market for some sun, history, and the freshest pasta in the world? You’d be hard pressed finding a better city than Rome.

With some of the oldest and well preserved attractions in Europe, incredible food, and even more incredible architecture, if you’ve never visited Italy’s capital, now’s your chance.

Rome will be considerably busy during the summer months, but don’t let that deter you. Make sure you book ahead of time for attractions, and take yourself down side streets for eating and drinking, and you’ll be fine. Oh, and remember to layer up that factor 50 – you’ll need it.

4. Krakow

Poland may not be everyone’s first choice when planning a summer break, but maybe it should be. Here’s why.

Krakow has an incredible history, it has tonnes to do, and it is amazingly cheap. A trip to Krakow won’t break the bank. The city is incredibly easy on the current account, with accommodation, food, and travel being among the most reasonable in all of Europe.

Make sure to visit the Salt Mines while you’re there – you won’t be disappointed.

5. Manchester

When we think of holidays in the UK sun, London tends to be the top of the list – but next time you travel, why not make it Manchester?

With cheap flights, brilliant night life, and some amazing places to eat and drink (the Alchemist bar, we’re looking at you), you’ll be sure to have a low-stress, high-fun break in the English northwest.

The people are also super friendly – always a massive plus.
