Travelling to Greece this summer? There’s some information you should check out in advance

Olivia Hayes

Take note.

If you’ve planned a holiday in Greece this year then the government has issued new guidelines on people travelling over there.

As we all know, we leave at least two hours in advance to going anywhere, but you’d want to give yourself a lot more time if you’re going to the likes of Kos, Santorini or Mykonos.

Changes in the Schengen Borders Code regulation means delays at passport control are very likely.

The government issued a statement saying:

“As of April 7, 2019, the Hellenic Police [Greece’s national police force] will begin implementing systematic passport control checks for all European citizens travelling to and from destinations outside the Schengen area in line with a 2017 Schengen Borders Code regulation.

“Increased waiting times at passport control are possible on departure from and arrival into Greece. You should ensure you arrive at the airport in good time.”

Just be prepared for a long wait… you never know what could happen – and you definitely don’t want to miss your flight.
