Go hiontach!

Get ready to brush up on your Irish language skills, as an as Gaeilge version of Wordle is now available.

Foclach is already trending on Irish Twitter and is set to be our new obsession.

Wordle has taken the world by storm in recent weeks and – just in case you’ve living under a rock – it’s is a viral daily game that gives users six chances to work out a five letter word.

Foclach was created by Linda Keating, an Irish web designer, who enjoyed playing Wordle so much that she realised an Irish version would probably be pretty popular too – and help people brush up on their Irish vocabulary.

It’s already massively popular with 7,000 daily users. It’s not only enjoying popularity here in Ireland though, players are joining in from all over the world in places such as Thailand, Costa Rica, and Indonesia – among many others.

Users are proudly sharing their scores online every day.

“I’m over posting my Wordle results now but you better believe it’s going on the timeline when I get Foclach right,” one person said.

“I’m sorry but WHO let me live this long without telling me there was Irish wordle?? Foclach!!” another wrote.

“So I know I’m late to the Wordle party, but I have just found out that there is an Irish language version and this is very bad news for my ability to be focused and productive on a Tuesday afternoon,” a third added.

It’s also proving to be pretty useful in classrooms around the country, as teachers use it to help their students develop their vocabulary.

“I subbed in a fourth Class today and we worked together and got both the Wordle and Foclach word within four guesses and there was wholesome bedlam in the class lol they were delighted with life,” one primary school teacher tweeted.

Another teacher posted photos of her happy sixth class students working hard to guess the day’s word with the caption:

“We are really enjoying ‘Foclach’ each day, it is a version of ‘Wordle’ but as Gaeilge!”
