Representatives for the Catholic Church have confirmed that footage obtained through a church keyhole earlier this year does indeed show an exorcism in action.
The two-minute video was taken by Daniel Trochta outside the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in the Czech town of Vranov nad Dyji and posted to YouTube in February. Trochta was drawn to the church when he heard a woman's terrifying screams. He then held his phone up to the keyhole to film what was going on inside.
The footage was largely ignored at the time, but is the focus of worldwide attention following verification from the Vatican.
Fr. Marek Dunda said: "We were asking God to protect and to liberate the person. We used a Latin prayer asking for a help. Of course it helps."
He declined to give any further information on the woman in the video, saying the details about her condition were private.
