Vernon Kay ‘solves’ real reason behind Olivia Attwood’s I’m A Celeb exit

Viewers are still unsure what caused the former Love Island contestant to have to leave camp

Former I’m A Celeb contestant Vernon Kay has put forward his theory as to what might have caused Olivia Attwood to have to leave the jungle after just a day.

On Monday, it was confirmed that former Love Island star Attwood had been forced to quit the show on medical grounds after just 24-hours.

The 31-year-old was said to be “heartbroken” and had begged show bosses to allow her to rejoin her campmates.

A show spokesperson said following Attwood’s exit: “As a precautionary measure Olivia needed to leave the jungle to undergo medical checks.

“Unfortunately, the medical team has advised that it is not safe for Olivia to return to camp as there needs to be further investigation.

“She has been absolutely brilliant and she’ll be very much missed on the show.”

Kay, who appeared on I’m A Celebrity in 2020 during its first Covid-affected series in Wales, has now weighed in on Attwood’s departure.

The presenter, who finished third on his series, reckoned the health scare could have had something to do with the prawns that Attwood and fellow contestant Chris Moyles ate before heading into camp.

The pair were voted as ‘VIPs’ by viewers and so were treated to a luxurious lunch before being told they would have to parachute out of a helicopter and spend a night on a deserted island.

The meal involved fruit, salad, and some pretty big prawns.

Taking to Twitter, Kay wrote: “Olivia Atwood has left @imacelebrity hopes all is ok! Them prawns sat in the sunlight all that time were never a good idea…”

Her departure from the jungle did not feature on Monday night’s episode, so viewers will be hoping Tuesday’s episode will cast more light on why she has had to leave the jungle.

There are now reports that Attwood’s early exit could see producers parachute Matt Hancock and Seann Walsh into the jungle earlier than planned.

ITV said Attwood would not be replaced by a stand-in celebrity, but it is expected that late arrivals, Walsh and Hancock, could be fast tracked into the jungle.
