There’s a random and surprising health benefit to drinking Tequila

Love it or hate it Tequila is usually the drink of choice when 'shots?' is suggested amongst a group of friends on a night out. With a slice of lemon in one hand and the shot in another it will either make you sick or delight you. But for all you Tequila drinkers you can rejoice because it turns out there is a very random health benefit to drinking it. It's probably the last thing we expected. Turns out that drinking tequila is good for your bones. According to Science Daily, a new study, from the Center for Research and Advanced Studies (Cinvestav) in Mexico, has found that the blue variety of the Agave tequilana, which makes the drink tequila, "has substances capable of improving the absorption of calcium and magnesium, essential minerals to maintain bone health". Dr. Mercedes López, leader of the project, said, "the consumption of fructans contained in the agave, in collaboration with adequate intestinal micriobiota, promotes the formation of new bone, even with the presence of osteoporosis." After a series of tests in the laboratory they established that the agave fructans increased the diametre of bones and they believe they will be able to develop an alternative treatment for osteoporosis.
