James McClean sends ‘united Ireland’ tweet and then deletes his account

The outcome of the #Brexit referendum is the main focus of news today as no one knows quite what to make of the result.

Leave campaigners were victorious having defeated the Remain side by a slight margin, 51.9% to 48.1% to be precise. Twitter has been hopping since 3am this morning and supporters of both sides have been vocal about their opinions on Great Britain's decision to leave the EU. There has been talk about what Brexit could mean for other countries with Scotland working to seek another independence referendum and the possibility of Ireland calling a vote for a united Ireland. Famous figures have waded in on the debate too and James McClean, of Irish soccer fame, had his say earlier today. Posting a photo of him standing with Martin McGuinness, Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland, the Derry man wrote: "reignition of the flames of reunification #BorderPoll #UnitedIreland". Spotted on SportsJOE.ie, we can only presume that he thought better of leaving this tweet for the world to see and removed it almost immediately. Somewhat surprisingly, he then made the decision to remove his Twitter account entirely. Whether the Ireland winger, who also plays for West Bromwich,  makes a return to social media is anyone's guess but for now he's likely to concentrate on Sunday's BIG game. Ireland play France this coming Sunday at 2pm and after Wednesday night's win against Italy, #COYBIG fever has never been stronger. Only time will tell if the United Ireland referendum will come to fruition and Taoiseach Enda Kenny released a statement addressing same earlier today.
