We spoke to the makeup gurus over at wet n wild and they laid down the law and told us the 10 commandments of eye makeup.
These little tidbits have stood the test of time and are key when you’re trying to nail the perfect smoky eye.
1. Choose your colours carefully.
If you want a warm smoky eye, opt for tonal browns and golds but if it’s a festival look you’re rocking, purple and blue for the win. Balance a bold eye with a muted lip, we’re currently obsessed with wet n wild® Liquid Lipstick Catsuite in Nudie Patootie (€5).
2. Thou shalt always blend eyeshadow
And for longer than you think is necessary. It’s the difference between looking hot and looking like a hot mess.
3. Thou shalt invest in good brushes
You don’t have to spend a fortune either just make sure they are good quality. The wet n wild® Large Eyeshadow Brush is a bargain €2.
4. Wash thy brushes well and often
You don’t want dirt and germs anywhere near your eyes.
5. Thou shalt never double pump mascara
This will push more air into the mascara tube which will make it dry out quicker.
6. Never neglect lower lashes
When you’ve applied mascara to your top lashes, use whatever is left on the wand to coat your bottom lashes. It will completely open up your eyes. We love wet n wild® Lash Renegade Mascara (€6.75) because it has a great brush for coating those hard to reach bottom lashes.
7. Thou shalt not match lips and eyes
A deep red lippy is great but avoid matching it with a red dress and red eyeshadow. Treat yourself to the wet n wild® Color Icon Au Naturel Palette (€8.25) and never be caught short again.
8. Thou shalt not use liquid eyeliner on the bottom lashline
It’s just way too harsh. Opt for a powder or kohl pencil instead and smudge it to soften any hard lines.
9. Never ever forget a swish of stunning highlight to balance a smoky eye.

10. Thou shalt always remove eye makeup at the end of the day
Repeat after me, I will always remove my makeup before bed. At the very least use a makeup wipe.
