Keeping our skin happy is very important, especially as we get older.

One of the biggest complaints Irish women have about their skin is that it is dull, dry and often dehydrated.

The weather, pollutants and rapid changes of temperature can all have a massive impact on our skin so it is really important that we take steps to look after it.

Here are a few simple things you can do to everyday help get that dewy glowing skin.

Glug that H2O

It might seem obvious but one of the easiest ways to keep your skin hydrated is to make sure that you are drinking enough water. Aim for at least two litres a day and more if you are going to be hitting the gym. You can make it more exciting by infusing your water with different fruits and berries.

Turn down the temp

Having really hot showers and baths can actually strip essential oils from your skin. Try turning down the temperature and always make sure that you wash your face with lukewarm water. It’s a little change that can make a massive difference.

Use a gentle cleanser

Some soaps and cleansers contain lots of harsh chemicals that will actually dry out your skin. When you’re buying face wash make sure you read the ingredients and always opt for the most natural option.

Eat your fruit

Fruit is full of water so naturally, it is a great way to keep your skin hydrated. It also contains lots of beneficial vitamins and minerals that can give your skin a much-needed boost. Swap your 3pm chocolate bar for a nice piece of fruit and you’re guaranteed to notice the difference.

Invest in a good moisturiser

Never underestimate the power of a good moisturiser because it can do absolute wonders for your skin. Look out for one that will replenish and also protect your skin from the elements. Our fashion and beauty editor Cathy Donohue recently spoke to Clarins’ Scientific Communication Manager to get the low down on what’s important to look out for.
