For most children of the 80s a dabble with flaky blue mascara along with pan stick foundation and nude lip liner was a beauty right of passage and its return this season has been met with suspicion and fear.
And although we totally sympathise having been there ourselves and understand that previous attempts to rock rainbow-hued lashes have probably left you scarred, it’s the one retro make-up look we urge you to rethink.
Stella Mc Cartney sparked the trendduring her Autumn Winter 2012 catwalk show when her models strode down the catwalk with varying shades of electric blue mascara taking centre stage and nearly eclipsed the clothes themselves and now it seems that the cosmetic companies and budget high-street brands have taken note too.

Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Singulier Nuit Blanche – Waterproof in Vibrant Blue, €31.50
Coloured mascaras have come a long way and not only are they better quality, the colours are richer and more pigmented than ever and aim to bring out the best in your eyes.Plus, if vibrant blue is still a bit scary you can opt for a more muted shade of plum or moss green instead.

Benefit BADgal Plum Eye Intensifying Mascara, €23
Not only will you give your failsafe beauty look a shake-up, you’ll turn heads for all the right reasons in one easy sweep. Just avoid colour overload and keep the rest of your eye makeup plain and simple.
Maximum impact with minimum effort, what’s not to love?

Barry M Lengthening Mascara in Emeral Green, €7.99
