A Beauty Editor’s skincare routine: the products I use every day

Rebecca O'Keeffe

skincare routine

Skincare does not have to be complicated.

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve kind of been obsessed with my skin.

I think I probably inherited this from my mum, who looks 20 years younger than she is.

All natural, I might add.

Why? Because she had a fabulous skincare routine, and always has.

Skincare routines change over time, much like your skin, but you just role with it.

I’m 26, so I’m at that stage in life where I’m subtly more aware of the ageing process, but I still have that gorgeous hint of teenage skin.

By gorgeous I mean I get massive spots and breakouts.

I don’t have any wrinkles (yet), but I suffer from very sensitive and dry skin.

Not ideal when you live in a climate like our I’ll have you know.

Anyway, I was talking to one of the gals in the office earlier, and she suggested I share my skincare routine with all you fine females.

I suppose it will give you a bit of an insight into what products I love, and what I’m all about in terms of minding your skin.

So here we go:

Morning routine

I keep it VERY simple, purely because I loathe mornings. LOATHE.

I use some micellar water (not overly picky on brands, whatever is going) to waken my skin up, and then I spray on some Urban Decay B6 spray (€28). Simple.

The B6 is a vitamin-infused complexion priming spray, and I’m obsessed with it. It just wakes me up, and gives my skin the boost it needs.

Now, some mornings I’ll pop on some makeup, but that is a story for another day.

And off I go, into my day.

Evening routine

So, one very important thing I should mention is my water consumption.

I drink at least three litres every day, which is honestly more important than anything I put on my skin.

Get into the habit of drinking water as much as you can, trust me.

Anyway, back to the routine.

In the evening I wash my face with Bliss “fabulous foaming” face wash (€22). This is my FAVOURITE product of all time.

It has a really gentle exfoliate in it, so it gets rid of all those dead skin cells and nasty stuff. Plus, it smells heavenly.

After that, I use the Pixi Glow Tonic (€23.50) to tone my face. The beauty of this product is  that it contains natural ingredients to soothe and heal the skin, so it’s suitable for all skin types.

Following the tonic, I apply a few drops of The Ordinary hyaluronic acid (€6.80). Don’t be put off by the word acid though, this baby is basically a hydrating machine. Such a pleasant treat for the face.

And then, I finish it all up with the Clarins Hydra-Essentiel Silky Cream (€45) – a brand I’ve been using for years. They have a night cream too, that I use when I’m feeling fancy!

Then I crawl into bed for (hopefully) a solid eight hours of shut eye.

That’s all folks.
